Adding Items and Units from the Side Panel While Adding a Work Item Template

Adding a New Item (Material or Service))

Permissions

The user must have the “Add New Product” permission to be able to add a new material or service while creating the template. If the user lacks this permission, the add button appears disabled in the item selection dropdown.

Steps to Add

• While creating a work item template, open the “Item” dropdown within the Bill of Quantities table, and type one or more keywords to search.
• Click the “Add” button shown below the search results in the list.
• A side panel titled “Add Item” opens.
• Enter the required item details, then click “Save”.

Add Item Form Content

• Item Type (required): radio button options between “Raw Material” and “Service”, with a default selection of “Raw Material”.
  • If “Raw Material” is selected, inventory tracking is enabled by default.
  • If “Service” is selected, inventory tracking is disabled by default.
• Name (required): text field.
• Category (optional): dropdown showing categories defined in the system.
• Purchase Price (optional): text field.
• Selling Price (optional): text field.
• Sales Tax 1 and Sales Tax 2 (optional): dropdowns showing taxes defined in the tax settings of the system.
• Purchase Tax 1 and Purchase Tax 2 (optional): dropdowns showing taxes defined in the tax settings of the system.
• Discount (optional): text field.
• Discount Type (optional): dropdown with options (% or $), defaulting to “%”.
• Minimum Selling Price (optional): text field.
• Profit Margin Percentage (optional): text field.

On Submission

• If a required field is not filled in, a validation message appears inline: “Required”.
• Upon success:
  • The side panel closes, returning you to the work item template create or edit form.
  • The added item is automatically selected in the same cell where you clicked “Add”.
  • A success message appears: “Item Added Successfully.”
  • The added item is active by default.
  • If the Branch plugin is active, the new material or service is created under the current branch.

Managing Units and Their Factors

Permissions

The user must have the “Edit General Settings” permission to manage units. If the user lacks this permission, the “Manage Units” button appears disabled, with a tooltip reading: “Requires Permission.”

Steps to Manage

• While creating a work item template, add a material to the table.
• Click the “Unit” dropdown for that material.
• Select “Manage Units” from the list.
• A side panel titled “Unit Template” opens.
• Click the submit button to complete the action.
• Select from the factors defined for the chosen template.

Unit Management Panel Content

• Template (required): a dropdown showing all unit templates defined in the inventory settings.
• The panel displays the full unit template form, including its factors setup.
• “Add New” button: lets you create a new template by clearing all fields, so you can enter the template title and other details from scratch.
• You can select an existing template from the dropdown and edit its factors, or add a new factor to it.

System Behavior on Save

• When the side panel is submitted, the selected template (whether newly added or edited) becomes the template linked to the material or work item on that line.
• When you open the unit dropdown afterward, you’ll see the base unit and the other factors of the saved template.
• Note: If the product already has a linked template, and it already has recorded transactions, the selected template cannot be changed (the template dropdown in the panel appears dimmed), and the option to create a new template is also dimmed — only adding new factors to the current template is allowed.

Canceling

You can click “Cancel” to close the side panel without applying any changes.
