Viewing the Activity Section: Queue, Tables, and Log
The “Activity” section in restaurant POS brings together three sub-screens for tracking work during a shift: the Queue for tracking ongoing orders, Tables for viewing the dining room’s status, and the Log for reviewing what’s been completed or cancelled. This article explains each tab individually.
How to Access the Section
- From the top navigation bar, click the “Activity” icon.
- Select the required tab: “Queue“, “Tables“, or “History“.
Tab: Queue
This tab displays all ongoing orders during the shift, with the number of active orders shown next to the title.
Search and Filters:
- A search field by order number, client name, table, or item.
- Quick filters: All / Dine-in / Takeout / Urgent.
- A Select button to choose multiple orders together and perform a bulk action on them.
The order card displays:
- Order number and client name.
- Order time, and the waiting duration since it was created.
- Number of items and the total amount.
- Two action icons: Edit (to continue working on the order) and View Details.
Behavioral note: Orders that have exceeded a certain waiting duration are visually highlighted (warning borders and colors) to alert the cashier to follow up quickly.
Tab: Tables
This tab displays a “Tables” tab, with the total number of tables shown in a badge next to the title.
Search and Filters:
- A search field: “Search tables by name, number, or customer…“
- Two view toggle icons (grid / layered view).
- An “Add Table” button to create a new table directly from this tab.
- Status filter: All / Available / Serving.
- Size filter: All / 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 (guest capacity icons).
- A “Full” filter to display only tables that have reached maximum occupancy.
The table card displays:
- A table icon, the table’s name, and its number in a badge.
- A status badge at the top right, next to an edit (pencil) icon.
- Customer: The name of the customer currently seated, with the Time they were seated shown on the right.
- Guests: Current occupancy out of maximum capacity (e.g., “1/4”).
- Orders: The number of orders linked to the table.
- Active Orders: The order number(s) currently active at this table, shown as a badge.
- Occupancy: A percentage with a progress bar showing how full the table is relative to its capacity.
Tab: Log
This tab displays an “Orders List” header, with the total number of orders shown in a badge next to the title.
Search and Filters:
- A search field: “Search orders by ID or customer name...”
- Three filter buttons: Status, Type, and Payment.
- A “View” button to customize the columns shown in the table.
Table Columns (each column is sortable):
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Order No. | e.g., #00003 |
| Date & Time | The date and time the order was created |
| Customer | The customer name associated with the order |
| Type | e.g., “Dine-In“ |
| Status | e.g., “Processing“ |
| Payment | e.g., “Unpaid“ |
| Items | The number of items in the order (e.g., “1 Item“) |
| Total Amount | The order’s total value |
| Actions | A View icon (eye) |
The table includes pagination at the bottom, showing the current page, navigation arrows, and a “Rows per page” selector (defaulting to 10).
Important Notes
- The number of active orders shown next to the “Queue” title updates automatically with every new or completed order.
- The “Select” button in the Queue allows performing bulk actions (such as completing or cancelling) on more than one order at once.
- The “Add Table” button in the Tables tab opens the same “Add New Table” popup documented in the “Adding Tables in POS for Cafés and Restaurants” article.
- The “History” tab displays all orders (completed, cancelled, and ongoing), unlike the “Queue,” which only displays ongoing orders.
