Can a new unit of measurement be added while setting up the template?
Yes, new units of measurement can be added directly while setting up a work item template, without needing to leave the screen.
Steps to Add:
- In the Bill of Quantities table, after selecting the material or service, click the dropdown for the “Unit” field.
- Click the “Manage Units” button — a side panel titled “Unit Template” opens.
- From the “Unit Source” field (required), you can:
- Select an existing unit template and edit its factors or add a new factor to it.
- Click “Create New Unit Template” to clear all fields and create a completely new unit template (with its title and details).
- After filling in the form, click “Save” — the template (whether newly added or edited) is set as the unit of measurement for the work item or material in the line, and the base unit and the rest of the factors linked to the template appear when the unit dropdown is opened later.
Note: this feature requires the “Edit General Settings” permission; if it’s not available, the “Manage Units” button appears disabled with a tooltip: “Requires Permission.”
