Multiple Printers — Setting Up Printer Groups in the POS App
The Multiple Printers feature allows you to distribute order printing across more than one printer based on product categories — kitchen items print on the kitchen printer, bar drinks print on the bar printer, while receipts always print on the cashier printer. This suits restaurants, cafes, and multi-department businesses. This article covers setting up printers and printer groups from the POS app.
Before You Begin
- Printer groups are managed online only — all view, add, edit, and delete actions require an active internet connection. Attempting to manage groups without a connection displays a message indicating this.
- If the Branch feature is enabled, printer group settings are independent per branch and the app displays the settings for the selected branch. Without the feature, a single account-wide setting is used.
- Settings are synchronized between the web dashboard and the app — any change from either side is reflected on the other.
Part 1 — Adding a Printer and Auto-Detecting Paper Width
- From the app’s control panel, tap the Settings card.
- Tap Printer Settings.
- Tap the “Add Printer” button.
- Select the connection method: Bluetooth, Internet/Wi-Fi, or Wi-Fi Printing.
- Select the printer model from the “Printer Model” list, then complete the printer connection.
- Once connected, the app automatically detects the connected printer model and fills in the “Paper Width” field with the standard default value for that model (80mm or 58mm).
- You can change the paper width manually at any time: 80mm, 58mm, or a custom width.
Supported models for automatic detection include brands: Epson, Bixolon, Star Micronics, Sunmi, and Rongta.
Part 2 — Managing Printer Groups
- From the print settings in the app, tap the “Printer Groups” button.
- Tap “Add Printer Group.”
- To create a new group, fill in the following fields:
- Group Name (Required): A unique name for the group within the branch, such as Kitchen or Bar.
- Type (Required): “Invoice” or “Order.”
- Product Categories: Required for groups of type “Order” and cannot be left empty; optional for type “Receipt” — when left empty, all categories are considered included.
- You can edit any group: change its name, and select or deselect its categories.
- To delete a group, make sure it is not linked to any printer first.
How the System Works
- If no printer groups exist, the system prints the full invoice in the default mode without splitting the invoice into separate order tickets.
- You can create any number of additional groups — their tickets print in order format rather than invoice format.
- All group actions performed from the app (add, edit by name, type, and categories, delete) are recorded in the account’s general activity log.
Validation Rules
- The group name must be unique within the branch.
- A group of type “Order” cannot be saved without at least one category assigned.
- A group linked to a printer cannot be deleted — a message appears showing the linked printer’s name. Remove the group from that printer’s settings first, then try again.
- Opening group management without an internet connection displays a message asking you to connect first.
