What is the difference between “Merge into Existing Line” and “Add as Separate Line”?

The difference between the two options relates to how the system handles scale barcode scans when the same product is scanned more than once on an invoice or POS order:

Merge into Existing Line: When the same product is scanned multiple times, the weight from each scan is added to the quantity of the existing line without creating a new one, and the price is recalculated automatically on the same line. This is the default system behavior.

Add as Separate Line: Each barcode scan always creates a new independent line for the product, regardless of whether the same product already exists on a previous line and regardless of whether the scanned weight matches a previously scanned weight. Each line carries its own weight as the quantity and the unit price from the product file. Previously scanned lines for the same product are not modified.

Example: Scanning cheese at 0.450 kg then at 0.380 kg produces two separate lines: Cheese × 0.450 kg and Cheese × 0.380 kg. Scanning a third piece also at 0.450 kg produces a third separate line and is not merged with the first.

Note that this setting only affects scale barcode scans (weight-embedded barcodes) — standard barcodes and manually added products are not affected by this setting.
