Why doesn’t a specific field appear for an employee in a workflow?
A field is hidden from an employee when the workflow type’s advanced permissions don’t allow them to view, add, or edit it. The reason depends on where the field is missing:
| Reason | How to tell | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| View isn’t selected for the field in Field-Level Restriction Add, View & Edit. | The field doesn’t appear in the records list, the record page, exports, or reports. | Select View for the field in the rule. |
| Add isn’t selected for the field. | The field appears on the record page but not in the add form. | Select Add for the field. |
| Edit isn’t selected for the field. | The field appears on the record page but not in the edit form, and keeps its current value. | Select Edit for the field. |
| The employee has a rule under their own name that differs from their role’s rule. | The field appears for colleagues in the same role but not for them. | Edit the rule under their name, or delete it so their role’s rule applies. |
🛈
Note: To edit the rule, open Workflow Types, click the options button (…) on the workflow type card, then select Manage Permissions. In the Field-Level Restriction Add, View & Edit section, update the Fields Users Can Add, View or Edit table, then click Save. You can’t select Add or Edit for a field before selecting View.
