Mapping Local Taxes to Official UAE Tax Codes

To issue electronic invoices compliant with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) requirements in the UAE, you must map the default taxes defined in the system to the official tax codes approved by the Authority. This guide explains how to set up and manage this mapping.

Before You Begin

  • The account country must be set to United Arab Emirates.
  • The UAE E-Invoicing application must be activated.
  • The taxes you wish to map must be previously defined in Tax Settings.

How to Access Mapping Settings

  • From the main menu, click on Sales and select Sales Settings.
  • Open UAE E-Invoicing Settings.
  • Click on the General Settings card.
  • Navigate to the Tax Mapping section.

Automatic Mapping Upon Setup

When you activate the application for the first time, the system automatically maps default taxes to the following official codes:

  • Standard Rated (SR)→ Standard Rated (VAT)
  • Reverse Charges (RC) → Reverse Charges (VAT)
  • Zero Rated (ZR) →Zero Rated
  • Exempt (EX) → Exempt
  • Intra GCC (IG) → Intra GCC
  • Amendments (OA) → Amendments
  • Excise (T) → Excise

Adding or Deleting a Mapping

To Add a New Mapping:

  • In the Tax Mapping section, click the Add button at the end of the mapped tax rows.
  • In the System Tax column, select the tax from the list of taxes defined in your Tax Settings.
  • In the UAE Tax Code column, select the appropriate official code from the dropdown list.
  • Click Save.

To Delete an Existing Mapping:

  • In the Tax Mapping table, click the Delete icon next to the mapping you wish to remove.
  • Once deleted, the tax becomes available to be mapped again to a different code..

Mapping Rules & Validation

  • Each system tax can only be linked to one official code. If you attempt to link a tax that is already mapped, the following message will appear: “Each UAE tax code can be linked only once, except for Excise tax (T).”

  • Each official code (except Excise) can only be linked to one system tax. If you attempt to use it again, the system will display: “This UAE tax code can be linked only once.”

  • The Excise (T) code can be linked to multiple taxes.

    Example: > * Excise Tax — Tobacco → T

    • Excise Tax — Carbonated Drinks → T

  • If you change the name of a tax in the Tax Settings, the mapping remains valid because the system tracks the mapping via the tax ID, not its display name.
