Are Line Item Numbers or Totals Affected by Reordering?

No. Reordering lines by drag and drop changes only the line’s position in the list, and doesn’t change any value in the document:

  • Line numbering: numbering stays sequential (1, 2, 3…) according to the new displayed order, so no numbers are duplicated or skipped.
  • Line details: the line moves with all its details: the quantity, price, discount, tax, its own total, line notes, and the cost centers allocated to it.
  • Totals: the system recalculates the document after you drop the line, and the result stays the same: the subtotal, discounts, taxes and total don’t change.

Example: an invoice has three lines: (1) Product A worth 100, (2) Product B worth 200, and (3) Product C worth 50, for a total of 350. If you drag Product C to the top of the list, the order becomes: (1) Product C 50, (2) Product A 100, and (3) Product B 200, and the total stays 350.

Note: The new order is saved only after you click Save; after that, the document appears in the new order when viewed, printed and sent. For the full steps, see Reordering Invoice Lines Items Using Drag and Drop.
