Can the Font Be Changed in Reports? What’s Available and the Alternatives

The system displays reports with a fixed font and size on the screen, in print, and in PDF and Excel files; there is no setting in the system to change the font type, size, or color, or to make it bold in reports. This guide explains what is available for controlling the report’s look and the size of its text when printing, what is not available, and the suitable alternatives for each case.

🛈

Note: the font settings in the invoice designs (the default font and size) are specific to the invoice and quotation templates only, and they do not affect reports.

What Is Available and What Is Not

Option Available? Details
Changing the font type in the report Not available The font is fixed: Arial for English text, and Tahoma for the report tables in Arabic.
Changing the font size on the report screen Not available You can zoom the page in or out from the browser (Ctrl and +, or Ctrl and -).
Changing the font size when printing Available indirectly From the Scale option in the browser’s print window.
Font color or making it bold Not available The formatting is fixed; headings and totals are bold by default.
Paper orientation and size when printing Available From the browser’s print window.
PDF export orientation and size Available in some reports From the Settings option in the export menu dropdown.
Hiding columns from the report Available in some reports The Hide Columns filter in the client payments, client balances, net invoice position, and purchase invoices reports.
Formatting an Excel or CSV file Not available from the system The file has no formatting; format it after opening it in Excel.
Editing the report header (logo and data) Not available The report name, the filters, the logo, the business name, the address, and the tax number from the general settings always appear.
A general font for the system interface Not available There is no setting to change the font or the font size of the system interface.

Steps to Enlarge or Shrink the Report Font When Printing

  1. Open the report from Reports and click View Report after choosing the filters.
  2. Click the Print button.
  3. In the browser’s print window, open More Settings.
  4. Change the Scale: more than 100 to enlarge the font, or less than 100 to shrink it and fit more columns on the page.
  5. Choose the paper orientation: landscape for reports with many columns, or portrait.
  6. Click Print, or choose Save as PDF from the same window.

Example: a report with many columns that comes out cut off in print: choose the landscape orientation and a scale of 80. And if the font is too small to read: choose a scale of 120 with the portrait orientation.

🛈

Note: to get a PDF file with a font size you choose, use the Print button and then Save as PDF from the browser’s window instead of the Export to PDF button; because the system’s PDF export uses a fixed size and orientation.

Export Options

From the Export button on the report page:

Option The Resulting Form
Export to PDF A landscape PDF file with a fixed font and size, with the charts if there are any; editing the font and the page orientation is available in some reports such as the General Ledger report.
Export to PDF Without Charts The same PDF file without the charts. Appears in the reports that have charts.
Export to Excel An Excel file with the data only and no formatting; you can change the font, size, and colors inside Excel.
Export to CSV A text file with the data only, opened in Excel or any spreadsheet program.

How the System Works

  • The look of the reports is defined in the system’s own formatting files, and the reports don’t read the print templates or the templates’ formatting code.
  • When printing, a font size slightly smaller than the screen is applied (11–12 pixels), the filters and page buttons are hidden, and the page margins are 5 mm.
  • The PDF export shrinks the report content (75%) to fit the landscape page.
  • In the Arabic interface, the report tables are shown in the Tahoma font.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I changed the font in the invoice design. Why didn’t it change in reports? Because the font settings in the invoice designs are specific to invoices and quotations only.
  • The printed report’s font is small. How do I enlarge it? From the Scale in the browser’s print window.
  • The report comes out cut off in print. What do I do? Choose the landscape orientation and reduce the scale, or hide some columns if the report supports that.
  • Can a PDF file be made portrait? Not from the Export to PDF button; use Print and then Save as PDF and choose the portrait orientation.
  • Can columns or rows in the report be colored? Not from inside the system; export the report to Excel and format it there.
  • How do I change the logo or the data in the report header? From the account’s general settings; the same logo and data appear in all reports.
