Setting up the SMTP Settings for Gmail emails

What is the SMTP?

Daftra sends emails by default on behalf of its users through the email address “maildelivery@daftra.com” to ensure successful delivery to the clients without them being returned or rejected by the email server.

If you prefer to add your original email to be the sender and receiver for all emails instead of sending through maildelivery@daftra.com; you need to set up SMTP settings on the account.

  • Usually, Gmail blocks or rejects any connection from an unknown SMTP protocol. Therefore, you need to authenticate our service platforms with your Gmail address to activate the mailing system within the Daftra program.

1- Enabling the 2-Step Verification feature on your Google account

  • If this feature is already activated on your account, you can directly proceed to the second step to activate “App Passwords” and retrieve the password for the Daftra program.
  1. Log in to your email address on Gmail.
  2. Go to the following link: myaccount.google.com
  3. Click on “Security” from the menu.
  4. In the section for “Signing in to Google”, click on “2-Step Verifications”.
  5. Click on the “Get Started” button.
    • The Google server might ask you to re-enter your account password at this stage.
  6. Register the mobile number that will receive the verification code when activating 2-Step Verification.
  7. Choose the appropriate method to receive the verification code, either a “Text Message” or via a “Phone Call”
    • You can click on the “Show more options” link to view other methods and ways to set up 2-Step Verification on your Google account.
  8. Click on the “Next” button.
  9. Enter the verification code sent to the registered mobile number.
    • Note: This step may vary depending on the chosen verification method in step number (7)
  10. Click on “Turn On”.
  • With that, the 2-Step Verification feature is activated on the account. The method chosen for verification will be displayed along with other methods, should you wish to activate more methods and different ways.

2- Enabling "Apps Passwords" on the account and creating a password for connecting the SMTP

  1. Go to the following link: myaccount.google.com
  2. Click on “Security” from the menu.
  3. In the section for “Signing in to Google”, click on “App passwords”.
    • The Google server might ask you to re-enter your account password at this stage.

  5. Type the name of the application you want to connect with via SMTP (e.g., Daftra).
    • There’s no requirement to write a specific name or in a specific manner. You have the freedom to write any text in the field, preferably indicative of the application you intend to use, nothing more.
  6. Click on the “Generate” button.
