{"id":145046,"date":"2026-09-13T14:00:02","date_gmt":"2026-09-13T14:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/docs.daftra.com\/?post_type=faq&#038;p=145046"},"modified":"2026-09-13T14:00:37","modified_gmt":"2026-09-13T14:00:37","slug":"can-i-reassign-an-asset-thats-already-assigned-to-someone-else","status":"publish","type":"faq","link":"https:\/\/docs.daftra.com\/en\/faq\/can-i-reassign-an-asset-thats-already-assigned-to-someone-else\/","title":{"rendered":"Can I reassign an asset that&#8217;s already assigned to someone else?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Yes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an asset can be reassigned even if it&#8217;s already assigned, as long as its current status is one of: <\/span><b>&#8220;Not Assigned&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>&#8220;Assigned&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><b>&#8220;In Storage&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click the <\/span><b>&#8220;Assign Asset&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> button from the asset&#8217;s view screen, then:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Select <\/span><b>&#8220;Used By&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Employee or Storage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you select <\/span><b>Employee<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the &#8220;Employee&#8221; field appears (required), and the asset&#8217;s status after assignment becomes <\/span><b>&#8220;Assigned.&#8221;<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you select <\/span><b>Storage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the &#8220;Storage&#8221; field appears (required), and the asset&#8217;s status after assignment becomes <\/span><b>&#8220;In Storage.&#8221;<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Specify the <\/span><b>&#8220;Physical Location&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (required).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the new assignment is confirmed, it <\/span><b>immediately replaces the asset&#8217;s previous assignment.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Note:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> an asset cannot be reassigned if its current status is <\/span><b>&#8220;Under Maintenance&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><b>&#8220;Retired,&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or if it&#8217;s linked to an accounting asset with one of the following statuses: <\/span><b>&#8220;Sold,&#8221; &#8220;<\/b><b>Depreciated<\/b><b>,&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><b>&#8220;Written-Off.&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":39,"template":"","categories":[2201,2197,9118],"tags":[14090,15027,15028,15031,15032,15026,15030,15029],"class_list":["post-145046","faq","type-faq","status-publish","hentry","category-employees","category-hr","category-employee-assets","tag-asset-status-assigned-or-in-storage","tag-assign-asset-to-a-different-employee-or-storage","tag-can-i-reassign-an-asset-to-a-different-employee","tag-linked-accounting-asset-sold-or-written-off","tag-physical-location-when-assigning-an-asset","tag-reassign-an-asset-already-assigned","tag-under-maintenance-or-retired-asset-status","tag-why-cant-i-reassign-an-asset"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v17.8 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Can I reassign an asset that&#039;s already assigned to someone else?
